Alright Borkers, I’m headed out tomorrow morning to catch a plane from Boston to Wellington, New Zealand. I’m headed there on a semester with NOLS, and will be spending three months hiking, climbing, kayaking and running away from the indigenous cannibals.

Kevin has full control of my server, and I’ve made him promise to check up on it a few times a week to make sure nothing catastrophic happens. Wheaties should be able to bring himself back online automatically if my home server loses power for any reason.

I’ll see you all in mid-December!

Recent downtime

Hey guys, sorry about the past 48 hours or so of downtime. The bad news is that my entire server was down. The good news is that we’re no longer on a shared host! I am now rocking a DreamHost private server, which is just a virtual dedicated machine. All of you that have domains or subdomains hosted with me get all the benefits of guaranteed resources, too.

Note that I have an even higher-performance server with (mt) mediatemple that currently only powers two domains (as opposed to my DH server’s 90-something). I may move holybork.com onto it when I return from New Zealand.

Forum consolidation

Could we maybe consolidate all the game forums into 1? Cybernations hasn’t been posted in for months, and the other 3 are kind of unnecessary for the number of posts. If I wanted to post about CoD4, would it go in online? Console? Computer? It fits all 3, and it’s not like we have a ton of data to subdivide.

Seriously, Mav or whoever, I respectfully ask you not to toss in the racial slurs into our posts. Its bad enough this place is white as a picket fence but I do browse this forum not only privately at home but work and other less appropriate places. There’s a whole different dichotomy from being silly and something that could really be easily misinterpreted by many. Ask me, its reaffirming racist behavior and while whatever lick of satirical nature you may think it has, it doesn’t. But I’m not asking you to even not use racial slurs yourself, go right ahead. Just leave them out of my posts any anyone else who asks formally not to have racist diatribes tossed into their posts unbeknownst to them. Its not fair for others to have to watch their backs just incase they may have had something that could unknowingly offend the crap out of someone else.

I just looked down at the â€œtotal postsâ€ number in the statistics box on the forum index, and it happened to say 29999. So I thought Iâ€™d take advantage of the momentous occasion and make the 30,000th visible post on the forums in the Important Stuff forum. Hereâ€™s to a million more words of spam, DoB!

P.S. I say â€œvisible postâ€ because this isnâ€™t actually the 30,000th post because of previously deleted posts. Itâ€™s just the 30,000th post that you can see on the forums if you read every single currently intact post from the first to last.
