Zack, is it wrong that your name I associate with a graphic of Elizabeth Cuthbert?
Anyhow, my bro got it. I played it for 4 hours. Its kinda like Grand Theft Equestrian except really nerdy.
I was like "Fuck this mage and sword bullshit" and made myself a green haired wood elf with a bandana named "Cack" and have an affinity for the bow and arrow. I made my dude a little bit on the old side too as I figured he’d been thuggin for 100s of years and was an OG. I figured the sign of a thief and a mean backhand were the way to go. I didn’t like any of the class names so I made my own, I’m a carney.
I went around, walking sorta slowly completing the quests and explored a few dungeons which were all wastes of time. I was also disappointed I couldn’t pull off headshots, throw gang signs or kill police. You can still go up and bust someone in their grill for smart mouthing which is amusing but not always a good idea. However, the game is interesting and the character interaction is pretty good, no Jade Empire (and so far admittedly more interesting combat than Jade) but enough to motivate me to keep playing. Its a little corney and I feel like its a cheap LOTR rip off but the voice acting is pretty convincing (and nice as I’m more inclined to pay attention if they talk) even if there’s really no build up so far as why-I-give-a-fuck other than Picard told me so, and was serving up the long sword to fair madians on the upstep. Yeah, Picard was more pimp than Riker anyhow.
Anyone handing the this game a perfect 10 review wise is smoking crack. The game is too much for the 360, it chops up frequently and noticably, also there’s a lot of short loading screens that sorta slow down game play. However it is the first 360 game that seems like the real next-gen deal. It could have been done on a lesser console but you’d be sacrificing a good chunk of AI for NPCs and graphic detail. Its nice for once a game offers more than just a prettier picture.
[quote author=“Zack”]All the stores near me are out of it. Gotta love pre-orders.
Yes, we love pre-orders, because they give us the game when it’s out without having to kill somebody
I have Oblivion on pre-order, but seeing the large volume of content that has to be localized for the germans and suchlike… I feel the Euro release to be quite far away :(

Uhh, it’s due for release like tomorrow. I’m not going to buy it though, at least not at full price. While the scope of Morrowind was darn impressive it was actually a pretty boring game to play…

I saw that the date of tomorrow still remained firm just after I posted that.. I just still have my doubts since CDON usually ships games two days before release dates to reach you in time (or as in the case normally is… a day early)... and I haven’t gotten a shipping notice yet.
I’m loving it so far. You all need to get it, so you can help me find shit. That’s why I checked in at the old Borker, the bethesda forums don’t have a search function and getting info there is a pain.
I’m a playing a young wood elf who’s pretty handy with a bow, a blade, and your occasional Alteration spell.
Greg is right about the motivation thing with the main quest. They should have done more to make you want to follow it. Don’t get me wrong, I do whatever captain picard tells me, and you’re crazy if you think I won’t support Boramir on the throne. Shit, that guy kicked ass and always put the good of his country first.
I find the leveling mechanic overly confusing. You can train 5 skill points from a trainer per level (as opposed to gaining skill points by performing that skill over and over), but if you do the actual level up process before finding a trainer to buy your 5 training points, the opportunity is gone. Why? I missed out on a lot of training before realizing this and have since accidentily leveled before training a couple times.
I like that mobs and loot scale up as you go, so you can always go anywhere, but I worry that it’s based on level, and it’s clear that you can pack a lot more into a level if you do it perfectly (you also get extra attribute bonuses at level up depending on what you did that level). We’ll see if it ends up being pretty easy like Morrowind once you find a kick ass weapon.
Okay, my character is becoming a Vampire, what the fuck? The sun now hurts me. Now I have to find a cure for Vampirism and the guy I’m supposed to talk to is in a locked room, I assume its because I arrived at night. I don’t want to be a faggot vampire. Goth is so overrated.

Um, anyone care to explain what the hell a trainer is? I’m like a whopping level 4 or 5 right now and my guy is going vampire. Also are herbs actually good for anything? I get the idea you can collect them and play Pfizer or Bauyer-AG with them but I don’t know how you combine them.
I felt pretty smart when I figured out a puzzle before the game gave me a hint but then I realized the decoded msg doesn’t really help me all that much and then I started getting all vampy so I had to abandon it.
yeah, figuring the puzzle out I think you’re talking about doesn’t really help, since the person who gives you the hint will also tell you what the heck that answer to the puzzle means and where to go.
I can’t remember how to cure vampirism, but I think I read it’s pretty easy.
Like in Morrowoind, some people (often guild people) have the option to talk, barter, repair, and sometimes train in one skill. You pay them and train up.
I haven’t used many herbs. I think you use your alchemy skill for that (which gets increased when you harvest herbs). I have noticed that some herbs don’t require you to make them into potions. I found one in Oblivion that turns you invisible for a bit after eatint it, no processing necessary.
nope, I have yet to find one. I got a pretty decent one somewhere, but it only has 20 charges, so I never actually get to use the effects it has on it. I shoot twenty arrows in a battle sometimes.
I believe it’s all about the scaling. As you go up in level and fight tougher stuff, better loot will drop.
So far, I like the scalling overall, but I’m afraid I’m about to get my ass kicked for leveling so quickly and spreading my skill points pretty evenly. Scalling based on level when you can pretty easily level without actually getting better in battle scares me. The fighting has been just tough enough so far, but if my enemies start getting better while my Acrobatics and Light Armor skills just go up, it could get ugly. I’m having a lot of trouble taking on multiple foes. I will be very disapointed if I have to use the difficulty slider at some point or restart the game. I’m still loving it of course.
[quote author=“Greg Gant”]Okay I think I’m buying the guide, fucking Vampires.
Tried Gamefaqs?
Arrows are overpriced. I shoot quite a few in battles, and hot damn are they expensive to stock up on. And I never can seem to find all the ones I shoot off to recycle.
