Grey text on a white background is murder on the eyes. Perhaps make the text black?

Ditch the weird intro page. Once you click on any of the links it’s kind of gone forever and not that hot for navigation. Aside from that it’s cool. You just need a new main page that fits with the rest of the site.

Yeah, basically what Bia said. The intro page looks like it’s a seperate site from the sub pages and doesn’t serve much of a purpose. Either redesign it with some info (could be a short bio) or ditch it alltogether.

The sub pages look good, except for the way they’re aligned left in the browser window. You should center the content and frame it somehow, so it’s less of a big bunch of white.

The reel is too long. I know everything you do is prescious to you, but employers don’t care. Keep it short, keep it punchier. I’d also try and minimize the instances of straight video in the reel: it looks cheap.

If the reel is what you most want people to see, place it prominently. Right now, you need to dig. There’s way too much navigation overall. An employer is not going to be browsing your page: they want to click the link, see the work, and move on to the tons of other applications they have. I’d pick 10 of your best pieces, and create a single page to focus on them. Put your reel prominently at the top. Make it available in QT, WMV, and viewable online in flash. You want it to be as easy as possible for an employer to see your work.

I’d really think about cutting some of the work as well. The webpage design section can go outright. PS2 cheats is not as good as the portfolio page itself, and should not be mentioned. I’d place Aesthete most prominently beyond the demo reel: it’s probably your second best work.

Essentially, you’ve got a jack-of-all-trades master of none portfolio here. You need to pick what you’re applying for, and make the portfolio match. If that means 2 or 3 distinct portfolios, then so be it, but someone hiring you to work on motion graphics doesn’t need to see your musical experience, nor would a design firm care.

Best of luck. Hopefully this criticism is useful and isn’t too harsh.

Bah, lazy Greg! I begged you to change the text… your monitor is no excuse, on every monitor I’ve viewed it (even on my former Apple display) the text is too gray and small. Aside from that, I’d really have to agree with Yellow’s comments. Be straight and hard to the punch. PS2 Cheats is a worthy acomplishment and worth a mention somewhere to boost your image as a tech/web guru but not for your web design skills.

Aesthete needs to live, sadly I’ve got zero time these days.

Design process link still broken?

[quote author=“Greg G”][quote:099061048f=“yellow#5”]I’d also try and minimize the instances of straight video in the reel: it looks cheap.

I have no clue as to what that means. If you mean just longer clips, its all heavily edited but one of the reasons I got an interview for Medic First Aid is I left some of the clips together so you could see quick shot progression so you know I understand camera movement. I suppose it is a little longish

By "straight video", I mean stuff that was recorded straight with a digital video camera. It just looks cheap.

You may have a degree that doesn’t lend itself to specialization, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be more focused and concise in what you present to represent yourself.
