I was asked by my Greek friend to create a movie that includes all kinds of photos I’ve taken from her and two other friends being together. I tried it with iMovie, but for some reason it crops down the quality of the photos dramatically. It’s like watching photos that have been taken with an ancient cell phone camera! I don’t have any other demands, except that I could throw in a photo, time how many seconds it would show and then doing it with another photo.

Any ideas with what to do it from people more knowledgeable than me?

Sure you’ve set up iMovie right? I haven’t used it much myself, but I’d think it would do the trick?

I think the problem is that the original files are something like 1300 x something and the best quality settings in iMovie HD are 352 x 228. Maybe I’ll just ask her, if it’s okay enough :?

Anyone is free to suggest another program, if they know.

iMovie does a great job with making movies from photos. iPhoto itself can also create a simple slideshow. Are you using photos out of iPhoto? If not add them to iPhoto and then you can access them from iMovie and do all kinds of kewl stuff to them

This was done out of iMovie Owen

That movie certainly has the photos in its native res. I wonder what setting I have wrong for iMovie to screw the res :?

The last time I did anything with QT Pro, I had to drag ‘n drop a photo 24 times into the QT-window to acquire maybe a second of playing time for that photo. But the project’s going quite nicely with iMovie as long as I could figure out how to save it in a decent res.

does it play fine in iMovie for you? What settings are you choosing to render it out?

The final size of the project is 599 mb. While exporting, I chose QuickTime and best quality. It downsizes it to 506 mb. The quality seems to be quite okay, even though it still looks like that Owen-thingie has better res’d photos especially because the QT-movie’s just 320 x 240, but I’m quite happy with what I accomplished so far and I don’t think my Greek friend’s that picky. She’ll have the original photos anyhoo.
