I’m a Bond fan so obviously I had to see the newest flick. Ever since a year ago when I found out they were revving up a new actor for Bond, I sort of had a few doubts. I guess I had envisioned Pierce Brosnan doing one more film, but come to think of it he has been showing some age. I liked all of his films save for the awful "The World is Not Enough" that didn’t interest me much because the rest of the characters were very dull and boring.
Then I read a short synopsis that detailed this newest movie as "starting over" from the beginning. I started to think that perhaps this might be a good thing for the James Bond franchise. Most of the recent films tried more to impress with piles of visual effects and hugely inflated plot-lines. While I’ll admit they were fun to watch, they were probably souring the image of James Bond and turning him into some sort of top secret Inspector Gadget like superhero almost. I began to think it might be better off if James Bond got back to his roots.
I was pleased to say, this movie does not fail to deliver. It’s a highly more intelligent Bond film, but with plenty of action and some instances of typical James Bond humor that the audience heartedly enjoyed. I found the story a tad hard to follow in some scenes, and probably could’ve done without the extended love scenes for which they overly depict how much he begins to affectionately care for the woman who has been helping him (enough to resign from MI6), but overall I was greatly satisfied with the performance of Daniel Craig as Bond and the rest of the characters/villians in this film. I would hope Craig returns for another film sometime in the future.
Perhaps my only regret might be that recurring previous film characters like Q and Moneypenny were not present in this newer film, but at least Judi Dench reprises her continuing role as M.
Really no nifty gadgets at all save for cell phones were in this film, but probably better off without anyway.
