My wife is demanding one, and she’s typically immune to any form of tech lust.
Incidentally, I’m hearing reports of waiting lists 1000 deep at local ATT/Cingular locations in NYC, with a projected allocation of 40 units per store. People better be willing to kill if they want one inside the first 6 months.
My brother, who’s always loved his N-Gage QD (Which incidentally really is a much better platform than the GBA as it was able to do PSX level 3D) wants an iPhone. I’m not in any hurry for an iPhone but I’d be lying if I didn’t want one. Seeing as I’m contract to Verizon and I get free internet and more so the damn thing costs $600, I’ll wait on it but I will one day have one. I’m not even gonna act like I won’t.
iPhones will be the biggest non-X-mas Ebay craze and I imagine the hottest gift even next december.
Absolute tech lust here, but I’m also being realistic. Not gonna be getting one of those until they switch over to Verizon, if ever. Or maybe in a couple years if prices drop and my current contract runs out.
So i stopped in at a Rogers store near me (Rogers is the Canadian provider for the iPhone), and asked about it. The guy said that he got a memo today from higher-up’s saying that it should be released in July/August. so im quite happy, and if its timed perfectly, my current contract will run out and then ill drop the $500 on the iPhone.
Sigh, another craze such as the PS3. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out as such, huh?
I dunno, I am completely happy about my PS3. Oh, and Lair looks fucking awesome. Not to mention it actually takes use of the PS3’s power, the developers have said that it would be impossible to port to any other platform with as much graphical effects and physics. It also pushes 1080p and uncompressed 7.1 audio.
I’m pretty pissed at Apple. Did they have to make it this sexy? I’m already lusting for a PS3, a 360 and an HD TV to go with it. This much tech I don’t need would bankrupt me.
The 1080p and 7.1 you won’t be able to untap. You have to have a 1080p display (Apple monitors need an adapter) and more importantly a Receiver sporting the “HD” formats. A few of the Lair screens look impressive but some look no different than the 360. I’ll believe in the PS3’s power when I see hard evidence. Kicking out uncompressed audio actually means generally faster compression to lossless algorithms. Its cool that there’s a consumer format that does this now but if you were using your SB Live in 1998 with all your speakers connected directly to it, you were using 5.1 uncompressed. The uncompressed sound isn’t a testament to SOny’s engineering as I’m pretty positive with a firmware update the 360 could too, its just a matter of properly licensing either Dolby or DTS’s “HD” surround formats.
Halo 3 is gonna be in 1080p supposably. So the great debate continues
I just switched to Verizon. The free dialup networking “hack” sealed the deal for me. I went with the LG Charcolate^wChocolate because I couldn’t stand the thought of yet another silver flip phone.
I’m cingular, but my phone is only about 8 months old… so I’ll be waiting a while before I get another subsidized one.
I’m fine with that: Apple Gen 1 products tend to be rather shitty in one way or another, and I can’t imagine that their first foray into cell phone design will be any different.
I’m with AT&T (formerly Cingular as it now shows up on my bill as AT&T), but no plans for any iPhone since I ride cheap with a “Go” plan rather than a contract. I really do not use my phone that much, and have never been tremendously excited about the iPhone from the start. I do hope it succeeds for Apple though. I have my wallet set to get a new Macbook Pro which were announced today with LED backlit screens.
