I would like everyone to know, that I just saw Transformers, and it changed my life.

And Megan is possibly the hottest woman on the face of planet Earth, period.

I would like everyone to know, that I just saw Transformers, and I am very glad I didn’t pay a dime to watch it.  I’ll preface to say, I just don’t like action movies much at all.

I’d give about a C, although it was funny, the best line was when Ironhide suggests the humans are violent and Prime retorts “Were we so different?” . Now I didn’t expect Transformers to really tantalize me intellectually but the dialogue and plot was pretty thin, generally trying service the viewer until shit started exploding again. It felt like I was watching Independence day all over again. The action was fairly dull, in the same way Diehard 4 was, with plenty of super shaky cameras, and far too much happening to really process all the bended reality. The state of suspended disbelief is far too absurdly high.

Giant Talking robots? Okay cool. Talking robots that transform? Still Cool. Talking robots that transform and fight? Still on board. Giant talking robots that transform, fight and perform Matrix slow mo rocket dodges over exploding cars and buildings? Stupid.  I’ll admit, I think the modernization the robot’s aesthetics offended me, but you really lose a sense of scale and size as the robots are so incredibly agile and nimble in battle, despite wrecking lawns and patios.  Also rather bland was the robots almost had no personality. Ptime was classically noble but his overly simplistic rhetoric killed any aged wisdom and universal truths he was dispensing. Megatron pretty much was like, “Bitch, I’m Megatron, I smash shit”.  Seriously, while the main character was fine as Transformers always followed a tight interaction with a human boy to service the fantasies of 7 year old boys, I just honestly didn’t give a shit about too hot for US intelligence girl or sergeant-I-just-want-to-hold-my-baby. I wanted to see more of the great robot history and more explaining the cube.

Oh well. Nothing like bastardizing memories from my childhood even if Transformers functioned as a Hasbro’s 24 minute vehicle to hawk some cool robot toys.

I thought it was ok. Hated the product placement. Too many humans for a battle among robots.

Wait, you play action games, but you don’t like action movies? To me, people who actively do not like action movies are just about equal to PETA folk or those missionary vegimiemenitarians. Could you say that you honestly do not enjoy kicking back and watching a good John Woo film?

There are exceptions, and if the action services the plot well, sure, I have a love for art house kung-fu flicks (Crouching Tiger, Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Indiana Jones, Face Off etc but as a general rule action movies kinda suck. I like character development, plot movement and quality dialog over something going boom. Also post Matrix (While Matrix 1 was great) now every movie uses fuck-diculous action sequences where the events are so ridiculous that its not even really feasible.  I become disconnected from the events happening on screen as it loses its human element, and I stop caring.

When I was 15, I liked movies like Independence day, but that’s over 10 years ago… and more importantly I was 15 (although I was smart enough to realize then that Twister was stupid as shit). If I were to watch ID4 today, I’d think was complete shit hence I’ll never watch it again. A majority of action movies land in the ID4 bin, would have been cool as hell if I were 14-15, not so much now.

I still love ID4… sure it might seem corny and overly too dramatic with the president going up to fight, but it was entertaining and the aliens were nasty. I always thought it was somewhat funny how only the human race could be so evil and pretentious to create computer viruses to make havoc upon another system, and that the conquering aliens must have been so unified as a society that they’d never think doing such things upon each other. Yeah, I think about these things too much.

But besides, you can’t forget how Jeff Goldblum saved the world with a Powerbook.

ID4 is amazing, I own it on DVD. As well as The Fifth Element, that was the shit when I was 12, and still is the shit.

Welcome to earth!

I love a good action movie, and probably a bad one too. As long as it isn’t too pretentious, pretending to have plot and wasting time on character development. A good action movie defines its characters through the one-liners they say after punching a dude square in the face.

The Fifth Element truly is the shit. Still one of the best Sci Fi movies of all times.
