I searched Youtube for this last week after watching this unfold in person but never saw it crop up. I was cheering my ass off. Classic shit. This is how bitches get hurt.
The Mascot is Donald. Donald is the only cartoon character to have an honorary college degree, of course from University of Oregon. Last year UO won best NCAA mascot in some contest. UO has tried to move away from Donald several times but fans never take well to it. Disney actually tried to revolk Donald and lead to an interesting copyright case that’s often cited, as their wasn’t a written agreement outlining terms but documents like his honorary degree, a photo of Walt shaking hands with the UO president and other things proving UO had rights over the years. The law ruled for UO’s favor and Disney decided that for PR its probably in the better interest. University of Oregon is the only place you’ll see any disney character embraced by 20 somethings publicly and proudly.
Ask me its badass that they have a pissed off Donald as a mascot but it means for video games and such that you’ll never see UO’s mascot even tho’ its one of the most famous in college sports.
This is the classic image that’s painted on the doors of Mac Court as you enter and leave, and on shirts, cups, magnets, stationary, binders, car decals and everything. I’ve never seen a school that has more apparel than UO, thanks to mainly Nike and partly to disney.

The University of Texas at Austin has been number 1 in licensed paraphenalia sales for the past 3 years. Michigan was #1 before that.
Ah, but Pennsylvania has the oldest and probably most well known coach in college football, he’s practically a mascot himself. Man is he getting up there (42 seasons), but he refuses to step down. I imagine Joe Paterno will only take his resignation to the grave.
Ah, did your Texan feelings get hurt seeing a Pac-10 throw down on a Texan school? UO is ranked again. Big 12 is gonna take a bit of a ranking hit when USC throws down at Nebraska tomorrow. OH SNAP!
Anyhow, I’ll be watching UO serve up Fresno St tomorrow live. Autizen is the 5th largest city in Oregon when its full.
As Greg and I were talking about earlier, it is going to be interesting to see how University of Washington fares this football season. Really difficult football schedule this season - 8 ranked teams. We laid it down on two teams already (granted, the one against Syracuse isn’t worth bragging about, but at least we beat them 42-12). The last game against Boise St is a pretty good win. Playing Ohio St tomorrow.

No way, I rooted for Fresno State in that game! You don’t understand the deep loathing that all UT fans hold for Texas A&M. That, and it was a great game and I like to root for the upset, then again I wouldn’t call it a throw down. A&M blows major balls in football, to this day I don’t understand how their fanbase is so loyal with absolutely no results to show on the field. And don’t count Nebraska out, they’re really good this year. They have a very strong chance of beating USC, although I wouldn’t go as far to say as to expect it. Anyways, all I’m really trying to say is that my UT Longhorns could take your silly UO Ducks any day : P
I don’t know if it’s just me being a Texas fan who’s still used to having an invincible national championship-quality football team, but this season of college football is pretty poor so far. Most teams feel like they’re on their way down in terms of skill. I just remember in the 2005 season when they were matching up USC and Texas against NFL teams and trying to decide whether they could beat them or not…

Just another example of the ingroup/outgroup social identity paradigm that has cursed our world for so long…
I think you’re just bitter because you were always picked last on the playground in elementary school!
UO plays in the Pac-10, the toughest league in college sports, seeing as its the winningest league exo-conference play and we’ve had winning seasons 11 out of the last 12 seasons, and 3 NFL QBs, Keelee, Harrington and Clemens, say what you will but there aren’t many teams that care to play University of Oregon. This year is young, Dixon last game raped Michigan and there have been seasons past where UO finished higher than Texas, including getting robbed at a shot at the national title (where Oregon murdered Colorado St to finish #2) because of the East coast bias. What I’m really trying to say is Pride yourself all you want we’re not a push over, we’re better than Texas in a majority of sports (Track, Basketball) and our school size is 1/3rd the size of Texas…. And we have Nike.
But yeah, I’ll admit it. This year I wouldn’t count on UO beating any top ten teams but its gonna be brutal. UW beat Boise St, a rank team (Their RPI is unreal, they play 8 fucking ranked teams), USC, Cal (already beating #15 Tennessee) and UCLA are all ranked (as well as USC), and Stanford, isn’t great but never a walk in the park (lost to ranked UCLA) and Washington St lost to #7 ranked Wisconsin (away). Only team really in the Pac-10 with non-respectable losses is Arizona and sadly Oregon State. They may be our rival but I’ll root for them long as they’re not playing UO. That’s 4 ranked teams in our league and one team that isn’t even ranked that beat a ranked team.
I don’t think the games really have taken a hit, USC was just incredigood a few short seasons ago, USC was being heralded as the greatest college football team ever as there wasn’t a single weak link on team and a few seasons before that was one of the Florida schools (Was it Miami that went almost two years without a loss around 2001). Two games in its hard to really make any complete summaries of the season. Last year watching a few Boise St games on the sly then watching them get support from the George-Mason b-ball team at the bowl game, to go on and play the best college football game I’ve ever seen will be hard to top but I have hope… Its all about perspective.
The game to watch this week is uDub vs Ohio St in the Huskies home, and it’ll be sold for the first time in years. Ohio St has had lackluster wins against shit schools and fans in Washington feeling the wins and suggesting they’re finally back after years of ups and downs.
Well uDub didn’t come through and UCLA had an embarassing loss but man, there were some big wins today. UO walked over Fresno State, 52 - 21, letting up the last TD with the subs, as it was 49 - 14 entering the last quarter. Nebraska was on the on the ass end of a fucking, USC trounced them with their first and second string. Cal destroyed some nobody school. Michigan shut down Notre Dame 35-0 (it’ll be painful when those non league havin’ bastards play USC). Florida ran over Tennesse 59 - 21.
Some ranked teams took some hits, #11 UCLA lost to Utah!? #9 Louiseville to Kentucky? #16 Arkansas to Kansas?
How about Texas there Mav? 35-32 to University of Central Florida. Conference USA is a real tough league. I was watching that in the bar before the game.
Anyhow Oregon will be top 15 for sure. After watching the destructive offensive power for a 2nd week in a row I retract UO’s chances of a top ten win. Cal plays UO in Eugene.
Well that was an extremely hard game…I am surprised we did that well. I think that if we can do as well against other ranked teams I will be alright with it. We didn’t get raped. The last TD really just sorta happened in the last 10 seconds cause we were like “fuck it” and didn’t care anymore. Our team this year is really young, 90% of our defense is Freshman, and our star QB is new too. This is against Ohio State, the team generally considered having one of the best defenses in the country.
I feel that in the next couple of years, and if we keep getting talented young guys like this, by the time I am a senior, these guys will be a hell of a lot better and we might be into dynasty realm again.
