For those who haven’t seen this on Penny Arcade yet… it kind of summarizes it to the point:
Frankly, this actually is one of the best moves Sony have done in a while for the PS3… because now I could see myself buying the PS3 version of multi-platform games…. if I ever got a PS 3 to start with…. because before you had to chose between solid rumble, or late tacked on “motion sensor” controls that the multi-platform games were never designed for from start… but if the PS3 gets rumble too the 360 loses that edge.
The 360 will still have the edge of me owning one over me not feeling I will buy a PS3 until the price is cut in half.
Apparently this only cost Sony about $22 500 000 instead of the $91 000 000 lawsuit Immersion originally tried to get through.
Wow they’re going back to rumble, I ... am ... so ... surprised. What’s next? The gimmicky nature of the Wii gives out? Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy ftw!
Will rumble help the PS3? Not really. Would I buy a controller that had rumble to replace my controller if I had a PS3? Nah, but if I needed another controller I’d get it.
Might as well add rumble. Its doesn’t do much but it does provide you with a sensory feedback of touch helps convey: “hey, you really ate shit bad!” or “That is one big fucking gun you’re shooting”.
I think it’s more useful for certain genres. Driving games come to mind as one genre that always uses rumble for important sensory feedback, and shooters to a lesser extent.
April Confirmed for the FUTURE OF RUMBLE. No word on europe though… and for the inpatient people there has always been the option to import from Japan where Rumble has been a part of their future since last year. Our european and american PS3s (if we would have any) already have the software updates to support this groundbreaking feature, as does most of the released games. So… what’s taking them so long? Trying to boost Japan’s export industry?
Also, there will be a MGS4 Bundle in June including an 80GB console, MGS4 and a DualShock controller for $499. I wonder what we will get in Europe since they’ve phased out any hardware configs but the 40GB Gimp at corresponding to $449 MSRP (But it’s really €449… $675 with the low dollar…)... and I would kill for a $499 (or corresponding) deal like that if I could also play PS2 games on it. Doesn’t really help that the US 40GB is $399 now does it? Hopefully the new DualShock bundles will have their euro pricetag adjusted somewhat. Ah well… once I have money again, the PS3 is out and going with DualShocks and all… I’m getting one as a BluRay player.
Only game I’ve played that really made me appreciate rumble was GT4. Going down Nürburgring wouldn’t be the same if you couldn’t feel every bump in the asphalt.
That MGS4 bundle better make it to Europe, because that fucker has my name all over it.

Well… Frist indications say Not Yet At Least. But I agree. They need to reintroduce the 80GB machine and give us exactly the same bundle for the same price, and please without the 20% scandinavian luxury fee… It’s not like the rest of Europe doesn’t have 15-20% VAT too…
Nice link/pix/messup/whatever. The guy is obviously a bit biased, computer gaming the best? lol, yeah, okay, maybe years ago. I’m sure the majority of PC gamers have more friends than console people too, right? Tonight I laugh.
