I’ll come and shove your cable up your ass. Then you can blow fire and data away like never before.

Kevin has mad internets. With that kind of ping and those speeds, it is mad. However, it makes me wonder why his ping is higher than mine yet his distance says <50 mi.

Light travels amazingly fast and so when huge distances aren’t involved pings are typically more influenced by hop count.

Ross, I think I got better with DSL 4 years ago. I’ve also had less problems with DSL in the past than I’ve had with Comcast recently. When I move again, I plan on going back to DSL.

These tests are always remarkably all over the place…. Addendum to Wes, various network hardware equally important for these tests. My G5, being clearly superior in performance to my HTPC. Each computer is equipped with Gigabit Enet, sufficient ram and direct connected to the switch with DHCP handing out assigned IPs by MAC addy. The Mac was tested via Safari v 2.0.4 and Firefox 2.0.0.9 , the PC was tested in FireFox 2.0.0.9.
Example:

HTPC to Portland
\

G5 to Portland

G5 to Olympia Safari

G5 to Olympia Firefox

Also comcast has some real fuckery to their system, I can get burst uploads of 100k a second that’ll last for about a minute or so (regardless if BT is running or not) then a cap is enforced and my entire upstream is about 40k a sec. Any single download generally will cap at 400K, but I can have 3 torrents downloading at individually 300K a sec for a whoppin’ 900k a sec sustained.

I’m really surprised at how slow this is clocking, although the test server is in fucking Prince Rupert…

EDIT: Yeah, 211 ms is what I used to get on the 56k playing R6 on GameRanger…

Is a little better, but still, ~1600 miles away…

Try the Olympia server. that 211 ms ping is absurdly high.

Edit:

Things are a little better to the Portland server.
