Just wanted to give folks a heads up that the demo for Frontlines single player is on XBLM. Give it a download and let me know what you think.

I’m not at home this weekend, so I cannot even check if I’m able to download it as a silver member… but I guess I have to wait one week with the new system.

Gah, my damn 360 is giving me trouble. It keeps telling me that my account isn’t authorized to download a game with this rating. I can’t figure out how to fix it either, I have all the restrictions turned off.

Btw yellow, what part of the game are you responsible for again? I seem to remember you saying something about being in the sound department. If so, then you’ll be happy to know that the latest issue of Game Informer gave some mad props to the sound in its preview.

I’m a level designer. I did most of 3 of the single player levels, and touched all the others for one thing or another over the course of development, although I had very little to do with the demo, unfortunately. So all the stuff in the public is not stuff I had much to do with.

Are they going to make a Mac version?? Yellow, please negotiate a Mac copy please for when my mom gets an iMac and I can sneak on to play.

But seriously, any word on a Mac edition?

Not being a fan of modern (or WW2 for that matter… give me aliens to kill) setting shooter I got rather impressed of this one. If nothing else than for the best FSAA in any 360 games I’ve seen so far (and at 106” you see it clearly). Just that alone almost made me wanna buy the game. I kind of enjoyed the gameplay too (way better than any WW2 shooter so far at least)... even though I after too much Mass Effect lately missed a good cover system… but maybe it’s there and I just missed it. (speaking of which… it’s probably time to pick up GoW for 20 bucks now…) It’s a shame you weren’t greatly involved in the demo level… but I liked that one too… it feels refreshingly sanboxed after all horrid Call of Your Father’s Medal’s Heroic Duty run-along-this-line-and-shoot-stuff(i.e. those dirty inhuman monster nazis!)-in-a-horribly-scripted-manner.

All in all I salute an effort to make something unique in an otherwise oversaturated shooter department.

...it just need more aliens!

One of my friends played it and gave me some feedback. He said the game was great, but that the vehicle controls were pretty bad and hard to get used to.

If he was referring to the C4 car: yes. It’s been redone and made well… not shitty. If he’s referring to the aiming and turret controls in the tank: yes. That’s been fixed. There was an aim correction system that we were using in the demo build that has since been scrapped, because it was rough and caused the camera to jerk around a lot.

In general, vehicle controls have been a huge area of difficulty for us. Halo has taught people that you steer where you look, but tanks don’t work that way. You can look right and steer left, but because of that we mapped all the steering to the left analog stick (up/down to accelerate/reverse, left/right to steer). I can see how this is difficult, but there’s not a lot of choice when trying to map independent turret movement with throttle and steering, and primary and secondary fire.

Thanks for the feedback. We might have some more stuff coming in the future that people might be interested in as well… but I don’t think I can say anything about it yet.

The multiplayer demo is now live. I’m not sure if it’s available in non-US territories or not.
