Hi, My name is Johan and I’m a Civaholic.

I’ve been heavily addicted to Civilization, spending so much time with Civ 2 and Civ 3 that I barely dared to open my Civ 4 box for the Mac and still haven’t dared playing it more than briefly being afraid that it’d suck me in harder than WoW ever approached to do.

That being said, I’m definitely planning on picking up the new, streamlined console Civ, or Civ Revolution as it’s better known as. As opposed to the “real” civs, Revolution is made to be small, short, quick and bloody. I.e. making it the perfect online Civ. My largest gripe (and love) with the original Civs were the immense time you just sat there playing “just one more turn” until the game was over several hours later… which just didn’t do well for an online theater… I never tried… but without a group of close friends my guess is that it would be impossible to ever complete a game… or as with Monopoly, close to impossible to complete it even with friends. So before I pick this game up later this summer/fall… I would like to know who would be interested to play it online (not often, just every now and then… fitting our silly European times) and for what platform you’d get it in that case. My guess is that the 360 crowd still will be in advantage here… and since I still don’t own a PS3 (but 3 games for it already…) I would probably look at it for that… if it wasn’t for the free online gaming on the PS3, which fits my “always in the wrong timezone” schedule better since I seldom get to play much against Borkers as it is. I will get Live gold for a bit this fall, but I don’t know for how long, and if Civ Rev catches on among some PS3 users in the future, I will never have to worry about subscription fees for it.

Anyhow… what other civaholics will be there?

Possibly me, I like Civ but I found Civ 3 during a hectic time at school and played for about 25 hours in a week (really affecting my grades) then decided to delete it as it sucked far too much time. Then when Civ4 came out I played only two games, and it took 16 hours to finish both games (Over the course of a few days). I realized again history was repeating itself and canned it as I could see Civ sucking up 120 hours of my life before I got bored with it. Civ is by far the most addicting game I’ve played. Where as MMORPGs do nothing for me, there’s something about trying design a mighty army of communistic Camel archers.

Civ is fun but its more addicting than just sheer fun, as you’re constantly trying to evaluate each move like a chess game, and the game crawls along. Its completely awesome but at the same time not. I’ve been rather content with myself (outside of GTA4) for playing < 2 hours a week of games. A good Civ game could EASILY change that.

With Spore looming… I think I might try and skip Civ unless its so OMFG awesome that I can’t.

After having played the demo on the 360 I’m now 210% convinced I’m getting this game. Sooooooo awesome. It’s like Civ on steroids. Fast as heck, yet still Civ. And verily pretty on top of that. Almost makes me wanna bring my 360 with me back to the Island just to play Civ on… but I will stick with the Wii that I just got SSBB to anyways.

I’ll give it a rental. I still haven’t played much CivIV, even though I got the whole collection on steam.

It just feels like more of a laptop type game to me.

That’s the thing, the’ve managed to speed up the gameplay so much to be over faster that it feels like just a completely awesome game that DOESN’T steal away half your life for a year to come. Well… if I get it for DS it pwobably will anyways… but that’s a different story.
