Tell me if any of this sounds familiar: You come home from work, you sit down to have dinner and watch TV. After eating you decide to go over to your PC or Mac and play WoW for a little bit before bed. But when you get online, you see that it needs patched. So, you download the patch and have it installed when you suddenly realize that you have to go to bed, and you didn’t get to play WoW. Tonight I had one of those nights. The only difference is that patching service is so bogged right with everyone trying to download the patch, I can’t even get connected. Don’t you think that Blizzard would forsee something like this and attempt to recify it to absorb some of the networking onslaught?

Well, they have been supplying parts of the patch the past weeks if you have the background downloader enabled…

...but I’d say your better off not logging on anyways. The first days after a patch as big as this one is usually more buggy than the public stress test before the initial release.

I tell my WoW addicted roommate that every day…

Yeah, I suppose the background downloader would have been a good idea. I just left my computer run overnight to download this massive patch they have. All 1.2GB of it! It’s taken almost 10 hours to download it. I think I’ll leave the background downloader on from now on. It just that I thought the background downloader eats up a little more bandwidth and memory making the game a little laggier. That’s one of the reasons I turned it off to begin with.

There’s an option to make the downloader only download when WoW isn’t running as well. Not sure where to find it, but I have it enabled.

Wait, let me get this straight: not being able to play WoW for one night qualifies as a “shit storm”? I thought that term was better suited to things like Iraq or the state of the economy.

I’m picturing this guy.

Yeah, that kid really needs to be tied down and pump full of relaxation drugs. And no, not playing WoW for one night or at all ever, I don’t consider a shit-storm. It’s the amount of downloading at the exact same time by everyone everywhere you go…. That’s what I consider a shit-storm.
